Q: What is the minimum age?
A: Riders need to be 19 years old by the end of December 2016.

Q: Who can enter?
A: Anybody who is over the minimum age of the event category, can ride a bicycle and is moderately fit can participate. If you are unsure of your fitness levels or medical status, please visit your doctor first.

Q: What are the entry fees?
A: R495.00 per rider. This includes dinner in Uniondale on Saturday 23rd September. All proceeds go to the Lions of Knysna
and Uniondale.

Q: Do I need a license to participate?
A: The event will NOT BE sanctioned by CSA in 2017. FUN Riders DO NOT need to purchase a license or possess a CSA Day or Annual license in order to participate in the event.

Q: Can I ride with somebody else's race number?
A: No. Any participant found to be riding with somebody else's race number may face disqualification and/or a 1-year ban. The reason for the strict enforcement of the rules is because your personal and medical details are linked to your race number in case of an emergency.

Q: What do I wear?
A: Helmets: Helmets are compulsory. We recommend polystyrene helmets complying with ANSI Z90/4 or SNELL standards. 
Clothing: Cycling shoes, shorts and jerseys are also recommended for your safety and convenience but you can wear what you like.

Q: How can I confirm the status of my entry?
A: If you entered online, you can check your details on the RACETEC WEBSITE. Alternatively, you can contact the RaceTec offices on 0861 846 464 or queries@racetec.co.za

Q: How is my seeding calculated and who is seeded?
A: Pre-entrants are seeded according to their national seeding index. Racetec will manage this seeding process and will also take the 2016 Lions Karoo to Coast results in to consideration. Riders substituting will receive the SAME RACE NUMBER as the person they are substituting.

Q: When will I be assigned my race number and be notified of my seeding/start time?
A: Your race number and seeding will be sent to by the 15th September 2017. This will be sent to you by email or/and text message by Racetec who are hired to manage this aspect of registration.

Q: Where do I collect my race number?
A: Registration will take place at the Uniondale Showground – Uniondale on Saturday 23rd September 2017 from 13:00 to 21:00 and for the convenience of riders not staying in the area overnight there will be another late registration on the morning of Sunday 24th September. This late registration will start at 06:00 and will close at 07:30 on Sunday morning.

Q: How do I collect my race number if I do not receive my confirmation email or sms?
A: Many riders did not receive their confirmation via text or email in 2015 from Racetec. The organizers are aware of this and have made it clear to Racetec that riders must be sent an email and a text message with their race info in order to ensure a smooth registration. Riders are to please ensure that they put in their CORRECT contact info on the entry form in order to receive this info. Q: How will I be timed?
A: You must wear a RaceTec timing chip for this event. 
If you do not own a timing chip, you will be required to purchase one. Please call 021 681 4333 or email queries@racetec.co.za should you require more information. Old Winning Time chips are still accepted.
The most important thing to remember is to wear your chip on race day! It is much more than a timing chip; it is also a vital tool that gives us access to your personal and medical details in case of an emergency.

Q: What if I decide during the tour that I cannot continue?
A: There is a sweep vehicle that follows the route. Move off the course and wait for the sweep vehicle or you can stop at any of the official water points.

Q: What are the cut off times?
A: The cut off remains at the Kom se Pad / Knysna turn off at 14:00 and the Knysna High School at 16.00.
There will be seven start groups with approximately five minute intervals in between each group – the first group leaves at 07:30.

Q: What happens to me if I am in an accident?
A: If you are in an accident on the route, you will be seen to by our medical team. If you are able to, you can continue to the finish line or you can wait to be collected by a sweep vehicle. If you are more seriously injured you will be transported to the nearest hospital and your details will be logged with the organisers. It is therefore very important to ensure that your medical and emergency contact details are correctly updated and that you ride with your own race number.

Q: If I am in an accident and have to go to hospital in an ambulance, what happens to my bicycle?
A: The medic that attends to you will radio the Operations Centre who will send a marshal to collect your bicycle. Should there be room in the ambulance, then your bicycle will be dropped off at the nearest refreshment station. In either of these instances, your bicycle will be put on to the sweep vehicle which travels along behind the last of the cyclists. Your bicycle will then be taken to the finish and given to the Venue Operating Centre. You can collect your bicycle from the Venue Operating Centre.

Q: How do I get my tog bag from Uniondale back to Knysna?
A: The Lions Clubs of Knysna and Uniondale provide a FREE tog bag service to riders. Vehicles will collect bags from 06:00 until 07:15 directly in front of the registration hall on Sunday 18th September. Riders will receive a ticket and can collect their bag at the finish in Knysna after the event.

Q: Is there a secure bike park in Uniondale?
A: Yes – there will be a secure bike park available from Friday 22nd until Sunday 24th September. The cost of bike storage per night is R30 per bicycle.
